What is Afang/ How is it Planted?

Afang (ibibio) is a net vein leave, greenish in colour (dark green), which is been planted for human consumption, it has a botanical name but for the sake of our discussion we wouldn't look into that. It is cultivated through pining or burying half or part of the stem in a loamy soil. As it germinates, it is been supported by a Bamboo Stick, which aids the spread of its stem.

  • Stockfish (Ekporoko)
  • Kanda (Ikpa unam)
  • Meat (assorted)

  • Maggi
  • Onions

How to cook Afang Soup in Nigeri

This is the climax of our discussion, after having an insight of what Afang, you can now proceed to the procedures taken in other to cook Afang Soup.

After cutting the water leave and pounding or grinding the Afang, as well as steaming the meat, washing the fish/stockfish, complete the steps below to prepare a scrumptious meal.
  • Put the stockfish/fish into a pot add measured quantity of water with salt and allow to boil
  • After boiling has begun and is ongoing put the pounded crayfish add
  • Put your chopped water leaf and onions
  • Add maggi, pepper and the steamed meat
  • Put the Afang, allow to boil for few seconds
  • Then you add your palm oil.
After completing the  last step, allow to boil for few minutes, thereafter take it down from the fire and your delicious Afang Soup is ready for consumption.

Note: After completing the first three steps, stir and taste to know status while completing the others.
