Since her independence in 1960, Nigeria started with nine states, and gradually grew thirty six states. As a matter of fact, the country has a good resources, which includes, crude oil, coal. It is among the petroleum products exporting countries, as it records a huge rate of exports, which is a major source of her income.

Military Heads who created states in Nigeria

The states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, weren't created in one day, there were done by different presidents during their tenure in office. Below are the names of this person and the states they created.

General Yakubu Gowon: Created 12 states, with capital during his tenure in office in 1967, which were Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Kano, Cross River, Kaduna, Kwara, having Lagos as Capital.

General Murtala Muhammed: created 7 states making it a total of 19, which were Taraba, Yobe, Anambra, Bauchi, Borno, Benue and Imo.

General Ibrahim Babangida: created two states in 1987 which were Akwa Ibom and Katsina making it a total of 21 states.

General Sani Abacha: created six states, making it a total of 30, which were Nassarawa, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Zamfara and Gombe.

As time went on other states where been aded.

Nigeria has six Geo - political zones which are South West, South South, South East, North East, North Central and North West.

Below are the list of the states and their zones.

North Central: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger, Plateau and Abuja.

North East: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

North West: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.

South West: Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo,Osun and Oyo.

South East: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

South South: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers.
