Adam Smith Biography and Career

Adam Smith was born on the 17th of July 1790,  in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, was a scientist and philosopher and economist, he is regarded today in the world as “The Father of Economics”. His father Adam Smith, was a famous writer in Scotland. Smith was a devoted Christian at the Church of Scotland.

He attended the Burgh School of Kirkcaldy, which was a high school, where he learned Latin, Mathematics, History and Writing from 1729 - 1937.

Education/Teaching Career

At the age of fourteen, Adam Smith was enrolled at the University, to study Moral Philosophy, which was under the lecture of Francis Hutcheson at the University of Glascow and Balliol College Oxford, he was very studios, and he graduated from the school in 1740.  Leaving the school, leaving the school, he began his teaching career in 1748 as he started delivering public lectures at the University of Edinburgh, then he lectured on topics like rhetoric, belle-lettres, and the progress of opulence. He is the only one whose definition of economics, is today and will forever be recommended in the educational setting, where he included “ends and scarce means which have alternative uses.” Being a writer, Adam Smith wrote and published a book named “The theory of Moral Sentiments”, this was in 1759, this book was famous many students had to leave their country home to enroll at the University of Glascow where Smith taught.

Religion

Adam Smith, was a devoted member of the Church of Scotland, people then debated that he was a deist as none of his writings included God. His parents were true Christians, and devoted members at the Church of Scotland. Ronald Coase an Anglo-American Economist had this view that Smith sometimes refer to God as the “The Great Architect of the Universe”. Jacob Viner had this view that Smith was committed to the belief in a personal God.

Legacy

Of a true Adam Smith has left behind legacies, his contribution to the political economy, his writings and others. Many philosophers, and Economist can give account of his impact in the society and to the world at large, he laid the foundation of classical moral marketing theory.
