History of Osun State University (UNIOSUN)

As the 30th state university in Federal Republic of Nigeria, Osun state University was established in 2006, under the administration of Prince Olagunsoye oyinlola  wo issued a bill that was passed into law by Osun State house of assembly. The school ensures the welfare and discipline of its members, grants honorary degree , fellowship or academic titles, institutes award fellowships, scholarships, bursaries medal, prizes and other forms of assistance, it also offers bachelor degrees, post graduate diploma and master degree. 

The colour of the school is Gold and Blue, having “Living Spring of Knowledge and culture” , the school is been abbreviated as UNIOSUN  you can log onto www.uniosun.edu.ng to get more information about the school. The school has a good number of faculties, departments and colleges. Its first convocation ceremony was 20 11, it is recalled in 2013 that the school didn’t partake in the Nationwide strike,  which lasted for five months and is prompt in the release of academic calendar.

Visions of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN)

 The school is located in Osogbo, has the vision of establishing other academic programmes which includes:

• Centre for Pre-degree Studies
• Centre for modernization and application of Nigeria’s indigenous Languages
• The post-graduate school
• General Studies unit
• Centre for Alternative Medicine
• UNIOSUN Business School
• Centre for Management Studies
• Centre for Space Science and Technology

The above are some of the proposed programmes which the school will add to its curriculum. A detail of those who are part of the Osun State University Planning Committee are; Mrs. Bunmi Famoriyo, the honourable commissioner for education, Alhaji Ajibola Lawal, who is the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Osogbo and Dr. Samuel Gbadebo Odewumi a Senior Research Fellow (Special Projects) National Universities Commission (NUC).
