History of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic
On the 4th of July, 2016 Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Will, signed a bill into law, which concerned the name change of Port Polytechnic, into Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic. The school was.established in 1987 as Rivers State School of Basic Studies and was later changed to Rivers State College of Arts and Sciencea, then to Port-Harcourt Polytechnic and finally to Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic. This school is located in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and is been owned and financed by the Government of Rivers State.

During the regime of the then Military Governor of the State, Police Commissioner Fidelis Oyakhilome Rivers State School of Basic Studies, in 1987 the school was affiliated to the University of Ibadan and the Ahmadu Bello University, when it started operating as a tertiary institution and when it added Pre-degree Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) studies to its courses. In 1999 the it was change to Rivers State College of Arts and Science as it offered courses awarding Diplomas and Certificate in Various Disciplines besides IJMB.

Thereafter the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) granted Rivers State College of Arts and Science the permission to offer courses awarding National Diplomas, this was in 2006.
